Getting to know...Julie Hessenthaler, professional dog walker & pet lover.
After graduating from college with a Interior Design degree in 2010, I was excited to start my career. I searched long and hard for a job within my field but since the market crashed it left design jobs very scarce.
I couldn't sit around and wait for jobs to come to me- I had to be proactive. I knew I wanted to make a difference in people's everyday lives and found myself brainstorming ideas for what I could do to be happy in the meantime.
After much discussion and debate, I thought being around children or working with animals would make me the happiest. Within a few months I began working as a nanny and soon transitioned into dog walking & pet sitting with a company in Winston-Salem, NC. I fell in love day one and knew it was where I was meant to be all along.
Three and half years later...
June 2014, I put my dream to reality and moved to Daniel Island and started House & Hound. Being able to care for pets day-in and day-out has really provided the fulfillment I have been seeking for many years. Walking through the door and seeing the happy, excited faces of my "clients" is beyond rewarding, it's a blessing!
Gulliver is my 13 year old beagle-corgi mix. I fostered then adopted him from an animal shelter. He has filled my life with so much joy and laughter! Gully loves to travel and snuggle, his favorite food is peanut butter, his favorite place is Isle of Palms to chase birds!, and his favorite game is playing hide-n-seek.
